some Jewel shopping

Added the 99¢ jar of Fisher’s dry-roasted peanuts to my JFU account since that makes it half the DT cost.  Check your store’s sausage because mine had a bunch of the Signature Select short date ones marked 99¢, my guess from slow Turkey Day numbers.  I mean, if you are buying a 13 lb turkey, you don’t need a case of sausage for stuffing!  Other varieties (and brands) are all coming up next week as well, so keep an eye out on those because they freeze beautifully.  Cherry Garcia is to help with my holidays, thank you very much 🙂

  1. Nice find on that sausage! Do they also sell turkey sausage? I have been waiting for Kroger to drop their price on Butterball sausage, bought a case of 12 months back (yes they freeze great, those are actually frozen at Kroger!) and we ate it all already! I have been making my own using ground turkey….but it isn’t the same as how they season theirs. I will check my store for any cheap sausage when I get my cheap peanuts!

    • Saw a couple turkey, but I didn’t pick up or see a price, but if they hit date it’s just as much a loss, so ask if they’re not marked – we do, all the time! I just found EIGHT small wheels of Camembert in the fridge, courtesy of Pita. they had one-day left dates and i wonder what she paid? We only eat brie and Camembert at room temperature and very near date.

  2. Now that’s actually a “ripe” cheese! I find tons of dairy marked down at Meijer but they rarely go more than 20% off their fresh meat!? I get 80-90% off yogurt and milk almost weekly @ Meijer! (and if I need yogurt, I make it from the expiring milk!)
Our Jewel doesn’t seem to mark down much except fresh meat/seafood….I usually forget to check the packaged lunchmeat/sausage section of the store too.
I love the way your daughter chips in and buys food for the family. That way she isn’t really a “PITA”!
