A couple of pilot stores have been stocking bread, bagels and muffins for about a year now and Dollar Tree has been gradually expanding the program – look what I found when I stopped at the DT on Park and Roosevelt in Glen Ellyn after dropping PITA at COD! The cart wasn’t there yesterday (clerk said it just appeared in the afternoon with three times as much stuff). I always take lots and freeze the extras – – never had a problem. Wanna spend $4 at a grocery store or a buck at Dollar Tree – – your choice.
0.99 cent stores did this for a while and the full price
grocers were very unhappy and put so much pressure
on the distributors all the good stuff was no longer available. Your selection was reduced to white bread
and whole wheat.
Yeah, my local store did this a few years ago, but she said it was the junky, generic white bread only. This is the good stuff! Since the dates are only a few days out, most people don’t buy and freeze like we all do, and I’m hoping nothing much happens. I liken it to the Pepperidge Farm outlet stores I used to frequent.
