new IL law means no register surprises

The thing we ALL hate – sale price doesn’t show in the screen and you’re told “it’ll come off when you hit finish and pay” … only it doesn’t and you either forget about it, wait for the cashier to get assistance (while pissing off all the people in line) or drag your sorry ass over to customer service where you wait for someone to show up.  New law signed in Illinois means that damned register has to show both the regular and sale price as the item is scanned, not at the end when it’s pretty much too late.  Here’s the Coupons in the News article.

Sadly, the fine is only $25, with a maximum of $500 per retailer per year, so less than they’re probably scamming per day per chain 🙁
