Jewel “back up the truck” sale

Had to check this out first, but here goes:  There is currently a P&G promo going on where you “spend” $20 and get back $5 OYNO and 5 Free Redbox rentals.  I tried the 3-pack Ivory soap, since it is a P&G product and it’s on sale for a buck.  It works!  My advice, if you like this soap, is to buy it now, because the promo ends tomorrow the 4th.

The big one, though, is the Scott paper promo:  buy 1 out of different categories and get a $1 OYNO for each category.  In other words, buy one tp and one pt and get a $2 cat; buy one tp, one pt and one Naturals wipes (.50/1 coupon in 4/17 S2) and get back $3. This promo is scheduled to run through May 15 on one site and May 22 according to Jewel.  Either way will give us plenty of time to stock up.

The Lisle Jewel did not have any of the wipes refills, which are the best deal at $1.99.  They are investigating why there were none on the shelf and no shelf tags.  If you can find the wipes, you can roll your Wags $3 RRs from Splenda and gain an extra week.  I ran this 13 times using the tp and pt combo – no insert coupons, just the $2 cat from the prior sale.  Each transaction ran .39 including tax.  Since the paper towels are on sale for $1.25 and the tp is .99, well I think we’re doing pretty good here, right?  I mean, I spent $5.07 for the trunk shot!

Lisle has ordered at least ten cases of the single roll paper towels and the single roll toilet paper – and that’s just for me!  No, seriously, I have my own stuff coming in.  Check out your local Jewel and see if yours has the wipes.  If not, do the two product combo.

Many thanks goes to Barb at CW for the original post on the Scott promo.

  1. The Danada Square Jewel has lots of the paper stuff, but only had one wipe. Won’t get more until Thursday or Friday (I forgot what he said). Note that if you are doing the pt and tp duo, the tp is .89 at Danada and .99 at the Lisle Jewel. Not worth making a drive for, but if you’re running multiples, the difference will add up quickly.

  2. Is this $1 off per category, per transaction? Meaning that if you buy 5 TP and 5 PT in 1 transaction, you still only get $2 off? I’m assuming so. So can I just tell them I want to make 5 (example) separate transactions, and they won’t have a problem with it?

Sorry, I’m new to this. Thanks.

    • Exactly right on the numbers. Buying more than one in any category won’t get you more cash, so why do it? Buy one and one and then run (separate transactions) – going for the poetry theme here. Why would they care? Well, that’s the actually right. If you make a point of being a pain in the ass about it, yes, they’ll get pissed. If you’re running self-scan and lines form behind you, take a break and allow others to cut in until the rush is over. If you are buying a tremendous quantity, cs might want to open up a regular lane just for your purchases. Again, use your brains; don’t tie up a register between five and six at night or they’ll use your surveillance photo for darts practice.

      • I did this today, and it was great. Went in self checkout and there wasn’t a line. I asked about this offer at the front desk before hand, and she had no idea about it. She called somebody and they said they think they’ve heard of it; try it and see they said. Well I got some cash (she said CC might not work over and over) and bought all they had (12 sets of TP and PT).

It felt awesome watching all those $2 Cats pop out, knowing it equated to basically 20 cents for each TP/PT, when I usually pay 4-5x that.

Oh and I also went and got 4 of those body washes with the coupons you gave me.

I could get used to all this. This goes way beyond getting 20% off of this or that here or there, or just buying the generic versions to save money.

        • CS was right: do the same transaction over and the register won’t work using a CC, so you have a couple of options. My favorite is when you’re running a bunch like this deal, run the first one and get cash from the credit/debit card. Use the cash to just run each deal, LEAVING THE CATS TO JUST HANG THERE. When you are finished, take the cats and receipts directly to CS and have them give you back the cash. This will speed out the checkout process since you don’t need the attendant to keep scanning in the $2 cat. Only takes a matter of minutes for the whole lot.

    • Rather depends on your store’s delivery schedule and when you place your order. Your best bet is to speak with either your asst store mgr (usually the one who places orders) or your cs mgr. They will give you a rain check (if you’d like) along with a Special Order form with all the information about product, amount and your contact information. They give you the original and keep the copy. When you’re given the delivery info, make sure to call the store that day to make certain your stuff has arrived. trust me on this one.
