First mistake was going to the Naperville Dominicks, where Ogden turns south – place was empty of customers and products. Let’s see, ONE pound of unsalted butter on the shelf, the entire yogurt display was empty, one Sorrento mozzarella ball and nine Magnum ice cream bars. I used an open box of the 3 pack to complete my ten, but when I went to check out I scanned in my mfr coupons first. The store coupon ($5 off $15 frozen) wouldn’t work and the mgr told me it was because I was under $15 in frozen and it had to be over $15 after coupons. Well, they were nice and polite, but you cain’t fix stupid, so I said cancel the whole thing, which they did. And then I said I want my coupons back (like I’m giving ’em extra money, right!) – took my coupons and fat ass over to the Dominicks on 63rd in Woodridge. After the Western Springs Dominicks, this is my favorite Dominicks. Everyone’s polite, they have stock and no attitude about using coupons. You can even see customers!
You see here $28(!) of groceries. Decided to take five of the butters, using the $2.59 JFU price (cheaper than Aldi), the heavy whipping cream is cheaper than the light cream at Jewel, the all-natural, thin-sliced chicken breasts were on clearance for 1.99/lb. They no longer carry the Sorrento fresh mozzarella, so they substituted the other kind and pushed through the coupons. The Ice Mountain was FREE on my JFU. Best deal was the Magnum ice cream bars, on sale for 2/$3. Buy 10, use the $5/$15 ad coupon and 10 of the 7/31 rp $1/1 Magnum coupons (which makes them free).
While I’m not thrilled spending money, even I have to admit that we like to eat and eat well.
where do they have the single serve Magnums? Just by the regular packs or somewhere else?
At the two Dominicks I visited, they were loose in a dark brown, hard plastic solid basket on the top shelf in the novelties section – right with the puny cartons of Ben & Jerry’s. Look by the regular 3-pack Magnum boxes and go up and around there. btw, you’ll probably have to pull out the entire basket, because the bars lay on the bottom and you can’t see anything in the basket. Woodridge store had about 20 bars, but the basket looked empty from ground level!
The Magnums are the best ice cream bars ever. I can’t find them for less than $3 for a box, that’s the lowest I’ve seen, which is still pretty expensive. They’re always gone though, even when they’re at $4+ because they’re so good. So single bars are on sale for $1 at Dominick’s then?
No, Justin, they’re 2/$3, or $1.50 each. Buy 10 for $15 and use the $5 coupon from their ad ($5 off when you spend $15 on frozen), THEN use 10 of the $1 coupons, so you’re at .11 for ten bars.
10 of them… Ya I have 2. So instead what I did was I bought 2 boxes of them, that way they’re $.67 per bar. I’d rather have 6 for $4 than 2 free, they’re that good.
Had you bought six boxes, you would have been over $15 ($17.94) so could use the $5 store frozen coupon from the ad, then your two $1 coupons, paying 10.94 for 18 bars or .607 per bar. If you like them that much the extra bars wouldn’t be a burden for you.
You really need to get more papers.
