Blast from the past post (2012)

Originally published August 26, 2012 – wow, I still remember all those bottles!
Note:  If you want to run this deal, do not wait.  The cats are supposed to be $2 ones, not $5, and I very much doubt this will continue through Monday morning.

Been working the 2L pop catalina deal at Jewel all afternoon – phew!  What deal?  Glad you asked.  Buy the 2L bottles of any combination of 7UP, diet 7UP, A&W root beer, A&W diet root beer,  A&W cream soda, Sunkist grape and Sunkist strawberry.  That’s seven varieties in all.

You can run it a few ways, but I did 32 of each variety, paid $25 something (my brain is fried right now) for the first one and the cat machine spit out 8 $5 OYNO store coupons.  Remember, store coupons means no tax, which is great on a high tax item like soda.  Subsequent transactions meant you used the prior deal’s $25 in cats and paid .30 in high tax and got back an additional $15 in store cats.

If you want to run fewer transactions with larger numbers and want to use the 5% off your next transaction that gets generated with the first $5 cats, buy 80 of any of the above and you’ll get back $100 in $5 store cats.

I picked up 896 2L bottles using the 32 bottle method and 80 bottles using the one-time method.  These are special orders, for the most part, which will be picked up by the Lisle Township Food Pantry when they come in.

other Jewels, other clearances

Every few months we do the orthodontist run out to LaGrange, so when it falls on a WOD freebie, we not only get extras, but a chance to check out other Jewel clearance deals … or not.  These stores are all right on our way ’cause even for free Field + Farmer I’m not driving all over the world.  Most stores had the 50% off clearance deals, this one considered 2¢ a deal, while we loaded up a bag of Friskies for 24¢ a can plus Open Nature grain-free at 44¢ per can.  Repurpose biodegradable 3 gallon bags are 25 ct and were originally $3.99, but only 50¢ on clearance; we use these for the kitchen compost bin.  The coupon data base says we had a number of Friskies coupons in the 1/3 R2, but I went backwards and forwards on a number of them to no avail 🙁

Jewel free today: Field + Farmer dressing

Today (1/28) only, get a free bottle of Field + Farmer salad dressing when you say “Plant Based” at the register.  No codes, coupons or loyalty account required – your cashier will scan the free UPC paper.

Word of the Day Freebie Tomorrow (1/28)

Tomorrow (1/28) only, get a free bottle of Field + Farmer salad dressing when you say “Plant Based” at the register.  No codes, coupons or loyalty account required – your cashier will scan the free UPC paper.

Clearance cart Fructis & Dove

Stopped in and was surprised to see the clearance cart out on a weekend, since Jewel can get full price from most weekend shoppers!  The Fructis was $1.75 with three coupons in today’s (1/24) rmn; don’t see any Dove hair spray coupons in the data base. 1/17rmn has a $6/2 any SheaMoisture product and Lisle had quite a few of these bars.

A Saturday Sampler – organic carrots!

This is completely freaky because I not only check my emails early Saturday I check my APP and even my account online.  There was NO Saturday Sampler.  Just got a text from Pita to check my account and there it was.  At least it’s a decent one.  Today we get a 10-12 oz bag of O Organics carrots as a Saturday Sampler.  Add to your JFU account by Sunday and redeem by Monday.

more Jewel clearance surprises

They also had a couple bags of Pirate’s Booty white cheddar, so for 44¢ Pita was happy – I mean happy that I paid for them.  Plenty of Rice Krispies treats and a number of the chili lime hot sauce, there was only one pack of toilet paper, which I took – hey, a quarter a roll for holiday toilet paper in the hopes that next year will be more festive.  Lots of Nature’s Bounty Alpha Lipoic Acid for $1.99  ($2 coupon in 1/3 R2).

Jewel Pre sale + coupon + Ibotta + Fetch

Grass-fed is pretty much the only beef we eat now – can’t afford to consume that much of it, but when there’s a sale … These Pre (our favorite brand) chuck roasts were already on 25% off sale ($11.24), the 50% off sticker brought them down to $28.10 and a $2 Ibotta rebate (limit 5) means my roasts cost $3.62 each, down from the usual $14.99 shelf price.  Even less if you include the 25 Fetch Rewards I got.  Pre vacuum-seals their meat so pop them in the freezer if you aren’t going to use within a few days. These were marked 1/21/21.

Edit: Do the Dew – Saturday Sampler

Edited to say there is a Fetch Rewards bonus on Mountain Dew, so Pita and I each got 50 points for nothing! Even better than free. I use Fetch Rewards for everything – rebate APPs pretty much paid for Christmas this year. The link goes to an earlier post. Let’s just say it works on all stores (and online purchases) even places like Goodwill! Today we get a 20 oz bottle of Major Melon or Melon Zero Mountain Dew as a Saturday Sampler.  Add to your JFU account by Sunday and redeem by Monday.

Stock up on clearance chicken time

Literally so many chickens (in at least five sections) that you could fill an upright freezer.  Young fryers for 30% off, 50% off large stuffing chickens and 50% off expensive free-range birds.  This is the Lisle Jewel and since today is the date marked on them, freeze or roast soon.  I’m going to roast two in a large pan tomorrow and use another one for chicken soup.  The others … we shall see, although this cold weather means a heavy pot on an enclosed back porch gives you a few more days to plan without worrying about marauding bears or coyotes – hey, it could happen!
