Jewel-Osco store coupon policy – November 2013

GabZombieOkay, after all the End Of The World forecasts (when we know zombies won’t be here until Summer 2014), here’s the only pertinent changes – as I see them – from the June 2012 update (bold notations are Jewel’s own):

    • Competitor’s Store coupon:  Effective  November 1, 2013 Jewel-Osco no longer accepts Competitor Store Coupons
    • Catalina Manufacturer Coupons with the verbiage “Redeemable only at” [a competitor]) CANNOT be redeemed at Jewel-Osco   Catalina STORE Coupons issued from another Competitor/Retailer cannot be accepted.
    • For all coupons, follow limitations on quantities or the number of purchases per customer
    • All coupons should be checked for expiration – expired coupons will not be accepted.
    • Mail in Rebate offers may often resemble coupons, but cannot be accepted as an in-store discount at the time of purchase. Customers are expected to complete a rebate offer by submitting the requested information through the mail
    • Consumers pay sales tax on the full price of an item when redeeming a manufacturer coupon. EXCEPTION: Unless unconditional free in the State of Illinois.
    • EBT: Coupons may be used in EBT transactions however, when Manufacturer coupons are redeemed, the customer is responsible for paying taxes on the Coupon amount redeemed per State Tax Code.

If you want to read the entire policy, click here. Actually, I recommend printing and carrying it with you because there has been so much speculation that some cashiers and customer service people might confuse manufacturer and store catalinas. This explanation clearly states that the former is still accepted. And frankly, they haven’t been taking those Walgreens ONLY AT since June of 2012!   While some of you have done very well using other store’s coupons at Jewel, it’s never been a deal-maker for me. More annoying is the limit wording on coupons, but realistically, how are they gonna enforce it – especially with no loyalty cards…

Jewel-Osco starting Wednesday

I gave up after page 8 when they were pushing $1.50 sale avocados – – along with a Carnation Evaporated Milk sale price almost double that of Walgreens.  Only thing of interest is the price of Purina Beggin’ Strips:  $7.99 for the 25 oz pack.  Hit ’em up today and get the 6 oz packs for $3.39 BOGO.  (wait until tomorrow and you’ll pay almost triple per ounce).

My advice is either stay home and shop your basement or wait for some of those excellent bizzaro deals that seem to just appear.

.70 Beggin’ Strips @ Jewel through Tuesday

Photo1.jpgThanks to sharp-eyed reader Cindy, who spotted these Purina Beggin’ Strips on BOGO for $3.39 at Jewel.  Use two $1 coupons from 9/29 S (picture is Chicago Tribune cover) and get them for $1.39 for two.  While my preference is for FREE, this is a great price for these large bags.  Sale only goes through tomorrow (11/5), so either grab a rain check or buy now and return later with coupons.

New Big Book of Savings at Jewel

Photo1.jpg

Jewel’s newest Big Book of Savings – – isn’t.  So pitiful I had to force myself to take 20. Did get a chuckle from the Chanukah savings page  (the Kedem sparkling juice coupon gives you a bag of chocolate coins so that’s good). Look at the bottom right corner where they have the potato latkes and the mini latkes…um, aren’t those just glorified tater tots? Yes, they have onions, but so do some varieties of tater tots. They have eggs (don’t know about tater tots) and they are bound with flour or matzo meal (don’t know about the latkes pictured). But if they go on clearance, I’ll be all over them like a fat kid on cake ’cause I loves me my tater tots!

Jewel clearance freezers – more pizza!

Photo1.jpg

Saw a whole bunch of frozen pizzas in one of the Lisle Jewel freezer end caps – most were Reggio’s brand – marked $1.75 or less (These Reggio’s were $1.75, while the thin crust personal size were $1.25).  There were a couple of Uno’s, too, but when I sent sorta-vegetarian PITA to grab pizzas, she only came back with the turkey sausage, which is guaranteed to piss off carnivore-FirstBorn.  When she went right back – – they were already gone.  I told her to look in all the carts to see who might have taken them and to grab ’em back when the shopper’s back was turned – the nerve of the bum! – and she actually went off to do my bidding.  it would have been an excellent night’s entertainment…

No coupons currently out there, but I’ll hold my receipts for 60 days and hope.  ’cause $1.75 a pizza is for rich folks who shop Aldi.

Jewel CC pizza clearance

Photo1.jpgFreezer end cap at the Lisle Jewel had lots of frozen pizzas:  Culinary Circle, Celeste and others.  Culinary Circe flatbreads were $1.75 – full size pizzas were $2.75.  The “sale” price is currently $3.99.  Honestly, if their everyday low prices shoot up any higher, I’ll be shopping at Aldi…

Buddig Premium Deli .49/2

photo.JPG
Through October 29, Jewel has the Buddig Premium Deli BOGO – price is $2.49. Use the $1 coupon from 7/28 S and pay 49¢ for a pound of real lunch meat.

Note that the coupon says valid on products 9 oz or greater; they seem to have downsized this line to 8 oz since the coupon was printed many months ago.  I posted a comment on the Buddig Facebook page a couple of hours ago requesting clarification, but so far no response.  hmmm.  coupon scans fine, though.

Dominicks says “adios, Chicago”

It’s true!  Safeway has announced that they plan to exit the Chicago market by early 2014 – rather here’s your hat, what’s your hurry fashion, wouldn’t you say?

Here’s the entire article from Crain’s Chicago Business (I love that paper!).  Note that the update specifies which stores have already been sold to Jewel:

Free cappuccino & marinades @ Jewel

photo.JPGGot a heads-up from Rachel about the clearance cart at her Jewel – seriously, this was a shock because her store is the red-headed stepchild when it comes to clearance pricing:  In other words it ain’t gonna happen.  Obviously I didn’t have enough coupons with me, but I’ll post-redeem at my Jewel in another day or two, ’cause I’m not paying $45 for anybody!

Maxwell House International Coffees were a buck – 9/15S has a $1 coupon.
French’s Flavor Infuser was a buck – 8/18S has a buck coupon.
Box of Stash English Breakfast was a buck – no coupon, but a great price.
Mikee General Tso’s Sauce was $2.99 – high, but not compared to the original $8.99!   And sometimes you want to splurge!

2 new catalina alerts

photo.JPGPITA picked these up a couple of days ago, both start on Monday and continue through November 3.

There’s a $1 Crystal Light coupon in the 9/29 S, but no sales at Jewel.  You get $1 when you buy 2 or $2 when you buy 3 or $3 when you buy 4 or more.

Yoplait wants you to buy at least 15 to get $1.25 and 20 or more to get $2.  Yoplait gonna be waiting a long time…
