Tickets start at $5 for Theatre-Hikes performances in October at Morton Arboretum. Sure to get you in the Halloween mood, Theatre-Hikes’ Resurrected brings five of Chicago’s spookiest tales to life. With this trademark on-location performance, Theatre-Hikes takes advantage of the atmosphere and natural beauty of The Morton Arboretum, exploring the grounds as these macabre yarns play out. Three musicians will also be along for the walk and will set the mood. You’ll see one of Chicago’s most famous ghost legends: Resurrection Mary, an otherworldly woman in white who has been hitching rides since the 1930s. You’ll go behind the legend of Hull House, a settlement home for recent immigrants, which supposedly had a demonic child locked in the attic. Then there’s the mystery of Julia Petta, known as the Italian Bride, who died while giving birth to a stillborn son and was disinterred six years later, revealing an uncannily preserved corpse. You’ll also see the story of Francis Levy, the firefighter whose handprint remained on the window of the fire house for 20 years after he died in a blaze. And of course, no tour of Chicago’s dark past would be complete without the disturbing true story of H.H. Holmes, America’s first serial killer (as detailed in the best-seller The Devil in the White City).
