The world premiere of Eric Simon’s Bo Thomas and the Case of the Sky Pirates follows an assistant at the Sam Lowell Detective Agency who handles the bulk of the small company’s workload. While she dreams about catching her first big case, her days are filled with investigating petty theft jobs, which barely pay the bills. But her luck seems to change when reclusive heiress Lydia Day walks through the door with a request to look into a strange arson at an area orphanage. This might be the agency’s — and her — big break, or she might uncover details that were better left untouched.

Nora Dunn’s one-woman show comes to Chicago – $12 tickets

nora-dunn-073113You’ve laughed at her skits on SNL and enjoyed her on HBO’s Entourage and many other hit shows. Now see the talented Nora Dunn live in her one-woman show, Mythical Proportions – see it on the cheap with Goldstar – with tickets starting at $12.  Comprised of character sketches and first-person storytelling, Dunn’s show draws on real events in her life — crazy stuff like her adventures with Hollywood royalty, the time a security guard threw her out of Central Park, her encounter with a wooden leg and more. It’s been said that reality is often crazier than fiction, and Dunn proves that in Mythical Proportions. Dunn’s personal stories from her childhood on Chicago’s West Side collide with mythical, magical tales of the rich and powerful players in show business.

I get the feeling that this show is a testing ground for a Broadway leap – they have to test out the material somewhere, you know.
