I tell FirstBorn “why spend $12 (on sale!) for one polo when I can get this stack of six + the NWT rayon shirt for PITA + a few books + a pair of yoga pants for $30? By the way, that cookbook sells for about $25 on Amazon – PITA says SELL! I say no.

Photos from Illumination @ The Morton Arboretum
PITA, DH and I went to The Morton Arboretum Wednesday evening for Illumination: Tree Lights – nights when it’s 50º are perfect for outdoor activities! Here are some of the awesome shots DH took with his little camera (as opposed the HUGE ones he uses professionally. If you’re going with the livingsocial deal (like we did), grab your vouchers now because the deal ends in a few days. One really nice thing was that there was a line to get it, but an employee saw our vouchers and said “Oh, livingsocial? Right over here, no waiting in line” and we checked in at an empty counter!
Watch Google’s daily Santa tracker!
It’s hilarious! Every day a different covered place will be unveiled, so keep checking. Google will start the real action on December 24th, but for now, here’s the video.
Black Friday @ the Museum of Science and Industry
Spent Black Friday at the Museum of Science and Industry enjoying the massive crowds and double strollers – and you thought kiddie carts at Jewel were bad! Here’s a few shots:
It was snowing inside – real stuff, not artificial!
Here’s the France tree – USA tree had a stupid eagle on the top. I mean, really? Do you know anyone who decorates their tree with a giant eagle on top? One room had dance performances and display cases showing other religious celebrations.
Love the detail on the downtown Chicago buildings on the train exhibits. I sooooo want to take an cross-country Amtrak trip in a sleeper.
Happy Thanksgiving To My Readers & Functional Illiterates
I went dark yesterday ’cause I was bored
And that’s the truth. Cleaned and scrubbed out a room that’s been a sort of black hole, went looking at couches with DH (well, DH went back in the car after 20 minutes ’cause he was bored), brought up 3 large totes of clothes from the basement and returned only one, which means another five bags of clothing donations (it’s at least 30 over the last few months), brought in all the plants and tree before the cold (much less snow), pruned and cleaned them off, rearranged the living room…I mean, it’s completely ruined my manicure!
And honestly, it has to be a real deal to get my butt out the door during Black Friday day/week/month – every year it gets more hyped up and I just don’t see the huge savings now! I like the stuff where the bell rings and my orders magically appear.

Goodwill shopping
Thought I had more items in the picture, so imagine a much larger pile of long sleeve, heavier-weight tops off to the left! I love Loft and J. Jill, so try to grab those, while PITA grabbed the Charlie Brown (Love Stinks) and V. Day shirts (among many others). Picked up shorts for PITA from the $1.50 bin, more thermal coffee mugs since those darned house elves keep losing the tops and last but not least, this Cuisinart fully automatic burr grind and brew coffee system. I plugged it in to test all the features at Goodwill, but obviously can’t be cerain until I use it – that’s why it’s so nice that Goodwill has a 10-day return policy!
All the stuff was $51. List on the Cuisinart is $365, although you can grab it on Amazon for only $199.
PandaHall to the rescue of the seriously cheap Holiday DIYer!
I almost got lost in the buttons alone – who knew you could get such colorful coconut and wooden buttons for so cheap? And these Santa hair clips? Had to stop at the beading pages before I started to believe I have talent.
