Get paid for using self-scan APP?

Complaints about grocery self-checkouts are almost as ubiquitous as self-checkouts themselves, and one complaint in particular may be the most common among those who don’t like having to be their own cashier: “If the store isn’t paying me, why should I be forced to work there?”

Well now, one grocery store actually is paying customers who are willing to do the work that a cashier might otherwise do. And if customers embrace the idea, other stores just might want to consider doing the same. Here’s the Coupons in the News article.

Edible cups & more for McDonald’s?

McDonald’s currently has more than 1,470 restaurants scattered throughout Germany, but for 10 days in June, customers at its location inside the Mall of Berlin had a completely different experience when they ordered a Hamburger Royal Käse or a Schokolinsen-Saurer Apfel McFlurry.  Here’s the interesting article from Food & Wine.

Grocery stores or your other choices

Think back to the year 1988 for a moment. Walmart and Target didn’t carry a full grocery selection. Convenience stores sold convenience foods. Dollar stores sold trinkets. And there was no such thing as ordering groceries online. So in order to feed your family, you pretty much had to go to the grocery store. As a result, grocery stores commanded fully 90% of the grocery market share.  Here’s a short article from Coupons in the News here.

Starbucks Reserve Roastery Chicago—the coffee empire’s colossal new outpost at 646 N Michigan Ave—is slated to open its doors on Friday, November 15, as first reported by the Chicago Tribune. The 43,000-square-foot space that formerly housed Crate & Barrel will soon become Starbucks’s largest location in the world, offering tours, exclusive Chicago-inspired beverages, hard-to-find beans, on-site roasting and a full menu of pizzas, salads and desserts from Starbucks-affiliated Princi. Self-checkouts bad for your health?

Are grocery store self-checkout machines bad for your health? Do they cause you to feel socially isolated, rattle your self-confidence and tempt you to steal?

A grocery employees’ union thinks so. So it’s proposing a law that would severely restrict the number of self-checkout stations that stores can provide, giving you ample opportunity – or little choice – to visit staffed checkout lanes run by friendly (unionized) employees.  Here’s the entire Coupons in the News article.

A kilogram of cocaine washed up Tuesday at Florida's Paradise Beach Park.

(CNN)  Weird things wash up on beaches all the time.

Good Health Class Action Lawsuit

And yet another class action lawsuit, this time against Good Health products – exactly like the ones I bought at Walgreens the other day!  Check the claim form for all the various products that are included – you can claim up to 10 without receipts or wrappers.  Seriously, anyone who claims more and keeps old wrappers for nine friggin’ years should put the settlement money towards immediate therapy.

we still don’t shop online for groceries

Like drive-through liquor stores, or hairstylists who make house calls, just because a service exists doesn’t mean most people are going to take advantage of it. That seems to be the case with online grocery shopping, as yet another survey shows that, despite predictions to the contrary, the vast majority of us prefer to do our grocery shopping the old-fashioned way – walking up and down the aisles of a physical grocery store.  Read the Coupons in the News article here.  I read that article earlier about the woman who “saved” $750 a month by using online grocery shopping … figured she was high, delusional or both.
