Rebate apps are supposed to be easy – buy promoted products, upload your receipt, and get your rewards. So nothing is quite so frustrating as having an app garble your receipt, miss your qualifying purchases and force you to make manual corrections or contact customer service to get the rewards you’re due.  Here’s today’s Coupons in the News article about the Fetch Rewards program.  This is my very favorite APP – I use it for every single purchase, whether it’s meals, groceries or that last-minute pedicure 🙂

Ibotta is great, but often the rebate won’t include Jewel or Dollar Tree and that’s where Fetch Rewards comes into play, ’cause they don’t care where you shop (even online)! Latest rip-off in mail – postcard claiming supply chain prices and surcharges are forcing the Chicago Tribune to increase their rates by up to 15¢ per delivery.  Of course, they never actually raise their rates, they just reduce the length of your subscription: pay for six months and suddenly renewal notices start appearing at four.  The magazines they cram in there are also a subtraction for something I neither want, need or read. They do a hard sell on auto-pay because then they’ve already got your cash by the time you realize what’s happening, but if you insist on a bill it’s an extra $3.50 for that paper.  Customer service is out of country (with agents so very sorry for your trouble); they’re saving a crapton there.  So where’s all the revenue actually going?  Check out management expenditures – millions in salary, plus incentives, bonus and stock options.

You’ve likely seen the reports and surveys and studies, and if you haven’t, sheer common sense could confirm their findings – as grocery prices go up, more shoppers are switching to less-expensive store brands from pricier brand names.

Or are they?

At least a half dozen brand executives in recent weeks have claimed they just aren’t seeing it. So even though some sales figures show an accelerating switch to private label products, these execs don’t seem the least bit troubled.

“We asked consumers about their mechanisms for coping with higher pricing. Trading down to private label and store brands was the item that had the biggest decline,” McCormick & Company CEO Lawrence Kurzius told investors a few weeks ago. With the help of newly-introduced McCormick product lines, “consumers are trading up from private label,” Chief Operating Officer Brendan Foley added.
