Bee sweet day

IMG_4595Today’s the day we extracted honey from my hives.  Surprisingly good yield, given how late in the year they went it – – hope next year is even better and they all make it through the winter.  Here’s a few pictures of the process.  The frames are placed two at a time in the metal cylinder, which works as a centrifugal extractor. It uses mule power to turn the crank – and boy am I a cranky old mule tonight!  The honey then goes through a triple filter into the white bucket (below the filters), which has a spigot to fill the jars!  Bottom photo is Rachel’s son playing Winnie the Pooh – don’t fall in!
