We don’t need no stinkin’ cat food! -last bump-

Announcing a giveaway of 50 bags and boxes of Purina Kitten Chow by
Jake the Deranged Dog.  Send me your sob stories about why you (or
your organization) deserve to win this.  The usual procedure is to
have a random generator pick the winner, but since this is my site, I
get to choose!  So pluck my heartstrings, make a cry of rachmones,
make Jake howl in pain.  Since we’re talking a sizable amount here, I
won’t be able to ship it, but if you can arrange to be in the Downers
Grove, Naperville, Lisle, Woodridge areas to pick it up, it’s yours.
These are brand, spankin’ new bags of food, not overstock or dumpster
deals (not that there’s anything wrong with that).   Post your
comments and give it your all.  Please limit yourself to one comment,
’cause my eyes are bad enough and Jake would make a lousy service dog.
Contest closes on Friday the 20th at 5 pm, which will give you the
week-end to arrange pick up.  Just think, tons of kitty chow without the hassle of Wal Mart!   win-win

  1. I volunteer for West Suburban Humane Society in Downers Grove which is an awesome shelter (def: high adoption rate + low return rate = awesome shelter!) We’re known for taking in the high maintenance (read: expensive) dogs and cats and animals not doing well in other facilities. We are soon taking in 31 (THIRTY ONE!) cats and kittens from another shelter who just couldn’t handle the number of cats it was getting (lots of cats being surrendered this year are pregnant – not sure why – maybe they’re reading too much Twilight?). So, we will have LOTS more kitten mouths to feed soon and your Purina would go a long way! (besides, we’d totally mention your blog and generous donation in our next newsletter). 🙂

Thanks for the awesome giveaway, Christina

  2. We donate pet food to the Batavia Inter-faith food pantry as well as to ADOPT in Naperville and the Kane County pound in Geneva. I would love to be able to share this bounty with these agencies and also with Virgil Veterinary Clinic which has it seems, about a dozen cats at their office where they deal with dogs rescued from high kill shelters by Rover Rescue!
    Pick me!

  3. I would love the 50 bags of kitten food because we have three cats (who are not picky and would eat kitten food just fine). Our sob story is this: my dh and I both went to college. We worked in corporate america for many years before we got married and had kids. After the kids were here, I got laid off. But that was fine with me. Cuz dh still had a job. FF a few years later. He gets laid off. And has had no luck with finding a job in the near 18 months since he got laid off. Our future is scary right now. Looks like we are about to lose our health insurance (at least the kids can keep theirs).

We have three rescue cats and 2 rescue dogs. They totally rock. We are poor right now and the kitty food would help us a lot. However, if you get a sadder story than ours, pass that kitty food on.

  4. I would donate the cat food to Strays Halfway Housein Schaumburg & The Buddy Foundation in AH. I love animals & have 4 adopted cats.I don’t need the cat food but would love to help the shelters.

  5. Hi! Thankfully, I do not have a sob story. I am just a stay-at home mom in Naperville who doesn’t even have any cats, just 2 dogs. I would love the Bags of cat food to split up and donate to: West Suburban Humane’s Society in Downer’s Grove, The Naperville Humane Society, A.D.O.P.T. and I am not sure if Willowbrook Wildlife Haven in Glen Ellyn/Wheaton still needs cat food for wild strays, but since they needed it years ago, I would also see if they would like some of it. Thank You.

  6. My favorite pastime is couponing for charity, which includes various freebies and give aways. I would pass this along to animal shelters and local food pantries, as they accept pet food.

  7. I would love to win this so I can give it to my brother and his wife. My sis-in-law has a lot of medical bills, mostly related to counseling and meds for depression, and between them they are still paying off over $120,000 in college debt. On top of that, they recently adopted a 1-year old from the CO foster care system with special needs, and are currently fostering (and hoping to keep) her full biological sister, who was just born 3 weeks ago. They have 4 cats who were their “first babies,” and don’t have the heart to give them up, but don’t have any disposable income. This would ease their financial worries a bit — please pick me!

  8. Hi! I would LOVE to donate this very generous amount of cat food to Kay’s Animal Shelter, Inc. 2705 N. Arlington Heights Rd. Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Over the years, we have rescued 3 kittens from Kay’s shelter and we donate all the free and cheap cat food I can get couponing. Simply put – Kay’s Animal Shelter Rocks! All the pet rescue shelters are suffering from the sluggish economy so no matter who you select as the winner of this contest – you are helping out! Thank you!!!

  9. I have 9 cats of my own plus outside cats that live in my garage. Also I would love to share the food with Painted Pastures animal sanctuary. They take in both cats and dogs and provide them with love, food, water and shelter.

  10. My husband volunteers at Animal House Shelter in Huntley and I am sure they would LOVE to get this for their kittens. It would be nice to make a donation to them that I didn’t have to purchase my self for once! Not that I mind too much, it is for great dogs and cats that need new homes!

  11. thanks for this great giveaway! Ok, so here goes my story! My Brother in Law is one of the sweetest, kindest, funniest guys you will ever meet. He is 22 yrs old and just graduated college. Ok, sounds normal enough. Well, 3 yrs ago he was on a trip in Mexico helping out at an orphanage (organized thru his college). He and his buddies were walking towards where they were about to put on a talent show for the kids. He was going to do a back flip to entertain (and knew how to do so, as he had just completed a tumbling class at school). So as he practiced the flip one last time, he landed wrong and that day was the last day he was ever able to move his body. He is now a quadriplegic bound to his wheelchair, but don’t feel bad for him – he has one of the best attitudes of anyone i’ve ever met! Ok, so what in the world does this have to do with a cat???? 🙂 Just a few weeks ago after much talking he and his mom (whom he lives with) decided to look into getting a kitten, as they had been wanting to do so for so long. They jumped online to find that their local shelter was having a “Christmas in July Sale” – FREE kittens!!!!! They hadn’t been sure about spending money on a new pet, as it is pretty tight for them. So, they got there as quickly as they could and picked out their brand new sweet kitty – Petey!!! Petey is the best kitten anyone could ask for. All my brother-in-law had hoped for was a kitten that wanted to snuggle and Petey hasn’t let him down. The kitten will jump up on my bil’s lap and “ride” around with him on his wheel chair, he’ll also sit up on my bil’s shoulders and purr, purr away! He is the perfect cat! Of course, with medical bills, etc money is not abundant, so any extra cat food would be amazing, but I’m actually just glad that I got to share a bit of my brother-in-law’s story, as i think it’s a great one!!!
Thanks again for such an awesome giveaway!!

  12. Wow, this is GREAT! In all honesty, my husband is the cat lover, not me. We have two cats. I don’t know how I got sucked into it! Anyway, I cringe everytime I have to go to the store to pick up more cat food! I know it seems ridiculous, but sometimes I suggest give them away to family/friends just for monetary purposes. My husband says that’s unthinkable. I stay at home with 2 kids and he works his butt off to make ends meet. It’s a little rough at times; we make it work, but this would help out SO much. And, it might help me see the cats in a different light. As for now, I can hardly see past their dingle berries….aaaaaah! Help.

P.S. Wow, I just read Emily/Petey’s story. That’s some tough competition.

    Thanks for your consideration.
    Carolyn

  13. I’d love to win this. I have four cats. Two are main coons, which I adopted in May. My 7 year old himalayan was very sick. While I was at the vet someone dropped off these gorgeous girl main coons. The owner asked to put them down since she couldn’t afford them. So I adopted them. I love them. One is all white with peridot green colored eyes. The other is calico colored. My last cat is an ten year old persian. They’re all my babies. I watch football with my persian and himalayan. I’ve been unemployed for two years and I can’t imagine being without my babies.

  14. Long story short…during a year long recovery from a brain injury, my husband (who is allergic to cats) asked me if I wanted a stray cat that was hanging around for over a month. Shocked, I quickly said yes. I took my new cat to the vet a week later to find out she was less than a year old & even though she was extremely thin, was pregnant with 4 kittens & was already full term. She had her kittens on Mother’s Day, 2008. 3 were stillborn & the 4th we kept. A few weeks ago, my mom told me there was a family of strays a few doors down from her, because of my cats, I knew it was my job to rescue them. We “saved” mama cat, papa cat & 5 kittens. I didn’t know what I was doing, but called Feral Fixers (and several other places, but Feral Fixers emailed me back right away) for help. They helped me get mama, papa & the kittens fixed, chipped & vaccinated. We had to release mama cat because she truly was feral, but are trying to find homes for papa cat & the kittens. So far, 2 kittens have been “adopted” & I am looking for homes for the others. The kitten food would certainly help & the rest I would donate to Feral Fixers who is helping to bring down the stray cat population of DuPage County.

  15. I would like the cat food so I can give back to Rita who takes in injured and sick cats and kittens, and nurses them back to health. My cat showed up in her rural home and we got him almost a year ago from her; she told us we saved his life as bitter cold winter set in only days after we got him. She made sure our cat was healthy before we got him, and she gave us her heart along with his! We keep in touch and the stories she shares about the poor cats she takes in and their lives she saves are real tear jerkers; She has no children but gives all her love instead to these poor helpless and often sick animals.
