Unplugging the cable… update

2nd update:  Well, I did it – canceled DISH!  They transfer you to this loyalty department (meaning your loyalty to them, not the other way around) and try to keep you.  Offered me free HD and some other discount “which will save you $20/month for 10 months or $200!”  woot, woot, bring out the streamers… I pointed out that canceling my service completely will save me almost $800 a year – you do the math.  and no, I won’t only be getting local channels with an antenna.  Silly DISH, tricks are for kids, not customers.

Update: Found these two sites, one with info, the other for live streaming of sports (yuck, but to keep peace in the family): http://manofthehouse.com/money/budget/life-after-cable-tv-and-satellite-6a and http://atdhe.net/

I mentioned in a prior post about our (my) deadline rapidly approaching to yank the satellite from our household budget.  My husband first thought it was a great idea, until he found out that most of the football games are not on the free channels; the PITA is adamant that she not miss the first airing of iCarly (even though she never watches the first airing now).  What’s a tightwad to do?

I’ve had comments about ways to live without subscription service; I’ve checked out hulu and hulu plus, there’s Disney and Nick.com.  My question to you guys is what have you been using if you have no cable or satellite, how difficult is it to hook up and maintain and lastly, WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO DETERMINE THIS?  Help me obi wantsnocable, you’re my only hope…
