A Breaking Business story in the Trib (copied from CNN) says that traffic to deal sites is dropping. Gilt Groupies is down 22 percent since the start of 2011, and Groupon has fallen off 13 percent during the same time period, although both are still up year over year.
While I do see a lot of the same places/deals on various sites, I certainly would miss them because there are some sweet packages out there. If you want to read the whole (short) article, click here.
I’m sure the novelty’s wearing off a bit. And you know that we won’t always have as many deal sites as we have right now. There’s bound to be shakeouts and lots of consolidation.
But I wouldn’t worry about them being GONE anytime soon … at least all those folks so ready to fund Groupon’s IPO don’t think so. (Big money was never wrong before, was it? Let me check my journal, lol.)
