CVS – grrrrr

Wanted to make a few extra bucks on the John Frieda deal at CVS; yes, I know, it’s the couponer’s definition of insanity.  Spend $20 and get $10 ecb.  I picked up 2 of what I thought were the $6 somethings (only ’cause that what was in the spot with the tag!) and an $8 item, to bring me up to $20.  Use 3 of the $5/1 from 6/5 S, plus a $5 beauty rewards coupon that spit out of the magic coupon machine and I would be paying 0 and getting back $10 ecb.  Yeah…Not only did they all ring up at $8, the $10 ecb did not print.  So back to the shelf with the cashier and her scanner to locate the $6 products – one left.  So you see here $22 in sale price products.

Unfortunately, the register would not let her refund all my money, she had to put it on a gift card.  So I ended up paying for the new order with the gift card and having a couple of bucks remain on it.  Which I take exception to, since I used cash on the original transaction.  And since the $10 didn’t print on the second transaction, either, the cashier had to force it out.  Unbe-fucking-lievable!  OOP was $2 + high tax to get back $10 in ecbs.

and this is why wags still gets my business…

  1. Preach it, Chris! I have similar stories to this at CVS. Walgreens is always super nice about returns, and about having the right stuff on the shelves in front of the right price tags. Go Walgreens! I only go to CVS for the absolutely great deals. And some Sundays they don’t even have the signs up for the sale items. Grrrrrr!

  2. The nice part about this deal is that I bet some of the products counted towards the $20…..you might just need to buy 1 more to trigger the 10ECB….now youre way up!!! Plus it will all go towards your next BC reward……I tell friends stories of doing $100 deals and making 15-25ECB then realizing i should have gotten 10 more cuz i bought wrong toothbrush gong back and getting cash in hand walking out the door, remember when they did not charge tax on stuff if the total was only a couple bucks?

    • No, ALL of the products should have counted towards the $20 – I was at $24 on the first transaction and $22 on the second and no ecbs were generated by either. Considering I was over the $20 mark AND the products were clearly marked as part of the deal, it’s just the usual screw-ups with CVS. At least the staff have always been extremely friendly…

  3. I have learned through experience to check prices on the scanner first when I am trying to spend a certain amount to get ECBs. Sure enough, yesterday, when I was “buying” the John Frieda Full Repair products, the $6 and $8 stuff was all mixed up!
