Artie Lange, comedian & author show
A longtime veteran of The Howard Stern Show, Artie Lange first made a name for himself as a series regular on the Fox comedy sketch show MADtv. In 2011, Artie returned to radio with Nick DiPaolo to co-host Fox News Radio’s The Nick and Artie Show. Now he brings his hilarious stand-up to the stage of Thalia Hall in Chicago on July 1st. King Crimson tickets on Goldstar
Ever since they helped create progressive rock with their 1969 debut, In the Court of the Crimson King, King Crimson has been pushing musical boundaries, fusing elements of jazz, classical, experimental and rock music. In the band’s long history, they’ve had an ever-changing lineup of killer musicians, all under the leadership of trailblazing guitarist Robert Fripp, who has also lent his far-out guitar sounds to the work of David Bowie, Brian Eno, Talking Heads and many others. The group’s most recent release is Heroes: Live In Europe, an EP featuring a tribute to the titular Bowie/Fripp collaboration on its 40th anniversary. But King Crimson has always been a band best experienced live, and now that they’re touring with four drummers, this show promises to be an even greater sonic spectacle than ever before. Don’t miss the unparalleled musicianship of King Crimson live in concert at the Chicago Theatre on June 28th.
The Bristol Renaissance Faire Returns
Eat, drink and be merry whilst roaming among the jousting knights, regal ladies, saucy wenches and royal overseers of the famed Bristol Renaissance Faire, returning for its 30th season of fun and games just outside of Chicago. Hundreds of performers dressed in Elizabethan costumes create a magical world of music and excitement, with games, rides and 20 stages of entertainment options ranging from knife throwers to improv troupes. More than 150 artisans will also be exhibiting and selling their original hand-crafted items, including hand-blown glass creations, pottery, authentic clothing and weaponry. All the frolicking and cavorting can leave one in need of refreshment, though fear not — there are dozens of food and drink options available for purchase, including the signature giant turkey leg and the ice-cold sassafras. Kids are very welcome, and any little ones under the age of 4 can attend for free.
Broadway in Chicago: 3 shows for $50
Experience three hit Broadway shows in Chicago with this subscription package that includes School of Rock, The Humans and Love Never Dies. Based on the beloved 2003 film and featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, School of Rock follows wannabe rock star Dewey Finn as he impersonates a substitute teacher and turns a classroom full of overachieving elementary schoolers into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, face-meltingly awesome rock band. The winner of the 2016 Tony Award for Best Play, Stephen Karam’s uproarious, hopeful and heartbreaking play The Humans takes place in a ramshackle Lower Manhattan apartment, where the Blake family’s deepest fears and follies are laid bare over the course over one fraught Thanksgiving dinner. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies continues the spellbinding love story from his record-shattering sensation The Phantom of the Opera, taking audiences on a thrilling roller coaster ride of intrigue, obsession and romance in its Chicago premiere.
Buckingham & McVie discount tickets
Two core Fleetwood Mac members are together again as Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie play the Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in support of a new self-titled album. Escape to Margaritaville previews
Margaritaville is a sun-drenched island paradise where the drinks are cold, the ocean is warm and the locals are even warmer. One of those locals is Tully — a part-time bartender, part-time singer and full-time charmer who thinks he’s got island life all figured out. But when a beautiful, career-minded tourist from the city arrives in Margaritaville and steals his heart, Tully’s mellow beachside life gets turned upside-down. Escape to Margaritaville is a brand-new musical with a soundtrack of classic Jimmy Buffett hits like “Come Monday,” “Volcano” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” as well as original compositions. With a book by Emmy winner Greg Garcia (My Name is Earl) and Emmy nominee Mike O’Malley (Survivor’s Remorse, Shameless), this musical about the people we become once we’ve had a change of latitude is coming to Chicago’s Oriental Theatre. Dates are in November and December, after our hot and humid weather has passed.
