Directed by Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot, The Hours), 2013’s The Audience recreates the private tete-a-tetes that’ve taken place weekly between the Queen and the dozen prime ministers who’ve served throughout her tenure, from Churchill and Thatcher to Cameron. These meetings are said to have run the gamut from the intimate to the explosive, and dramatically chart the arc of Her Majesty’s eventful reign. Mirren’s already received the Laurence Olivier Award for her performance, and now you’ll have the chance to experience it yourself, in this screening of a National Theatre Live broadcast from the stage of London’s Gielgud Theatre.

Broadway in Chicago: 5 shows for $75!

broadway-in-chicago-920This is a fantastic price for five Broadway shows – less than the price of one show alone!  Enjoy today’s best shows in the heart of Chicago’s Theatre District with this exciting subscription package. The entertainment begins with the inspiring story of a young woman who pursues her dance dreams in Flashdance: The Musical, featuring the hit songs “Maniac,” “I Love Rock and Roll” and more from the Grammy-winning soundtrack. Next up is To Master the Art, which tracks culinary icon Julia Child from the bistro where she first fell in love with food to superstardom. It’s a show the Chicago Tribune has called “excellent, intimate … [and] resonant with atmosphere.” Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning Evita follows Eva Perón from her origins as a small-town peasant girl through her rise to fame as one of South America’s most powerful and controversial women, in a production filled with show-stoppers like “Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina” and “High Flying Adored.” In October, you’ll experience the musical Once, based on the small 2007 Irish film that became a surprise international hit, earning the Oscar for best song for the balled “Falling Slowly.” Now winner of eight 2012 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Once tugs at the heart strings again with its modern-day love story of a Dublin street musician who’s about to give up on his dreams when a beautiful young woman takes an interest in his haunting love songs and changes his life forever. Finally, usher in the holiday season with Elf: The Musical, based on the beloved film starring Will Ferrel. Hilarious and heartwarming, Elf is the tale of a young orphan who’s raised as an elf in Santa’s workshop before discovering that he’s actually a human.
