So they don’t all look the same?

Be careful the next time you go through a self-checkout at Target. You might be arrested and held responsible for someone else’s theft.

That’s the hard lesson that 31-year-old Alaina Villa of Spring, Texas says she learned. So now she’s suing the retailer for falsely accusing her of being the “Taco Seasoning Bandit.”  This is a pretty interesting article from Coupons in the News.

Purex Class Action Settlement Checks

Remember that Purex Naturals Class Action Lawsuit from a couple of months ago?  The one where they required receipts, or other proof if you claimed purchases of more than 10 over the six years covered?  Well, I got my whopping check in today’s mail:  $1.33 and I must have bought hundreds of these ’cause it’s my favorite.  So now I know the value placed on my loyalty.  Note that this check can’t be cashed at a check cashing agency (currency exchange?) although I kinda think the fee would eliminate your payout 🙂

Quaker Oats $1,000 daily drawings

Quaker Oats is having a $1,000 daily drawing that doesn’t end until 12/31/19 – you’re bound to win by then, right?  No purchase necessary but each submission requires a recipe and that recipe MUST include at least one Quaker Oats product.

Hoover Dam/Lake Mead Pix

FirstBorn grabbed a Groupon for a Hoover Dam tour (which included roundtrip bus from Vegas); here are a few pictures.  Lake Mead is dropping dangerously low due to something like 19 years of drought – – that visitors center is just about at the original lake level.

Living the Dream in Vegas

FirstBorn is in Las Vegas, enjoying his Living the Dream vacation.  Not what I’d call it, since I consider extreme couponing to be gambling where you have the House edge.  Here’s a few pictures just sent (Bellagio).  I asked WHY? The reply – why not, that’s why this city is great!

Replace Registers with Smart Carts?

Grocery shopping is about to become easier than ever. You won’t have to wander the store looking for what you want, you won’t have to consult the sales circular to learn about the best deals and coupons, and best of all, you won’t have to stand in line and wait as a cashier scans your items one by one.  Here’s the Coupons in the News article.

Coupons or just low price stores

Which came first – the chicken or the egg? Or, in the case of coupons, which came first – fewer coupons, or fewer coupon users?  Here’s the rather long article from Coupons in the News – I think the most important part is the end summary.

You could make the argument either way – because fewer people are interested in clipping coupons these days, fewer coupons are being issued in response, or because fewer coupons are being issued, fewer people are using them.

Regardless of the precise cause-and-effect, a recent report on the state of coupons and promotions finds that coupon use and deal-seeking continue to decline. But retailers and manufacturers could be missing out if they don’t do something to help reverse this trend.
