I stopped at the Lisle Wags today to pick up some money to spend at Jewel; all prior RRs went towards my facial yesterday. Figured I’d run two sets of four Reach, take my $8 RRs and go shopping. Well, imagine my shock when I see an entire Almay display set up with info on making money, using the coupons, etc. The cosmetic person said that the store mgr is trying to attract the business that Steve is getting and has been in talks with him. While they in no way have the sheer volume of product Steve ordered, if you were unable to make the Wheaton deadline for pre-orders, go to the Lisle store on Rte 53 and Maple Avenue. They have about 200 products in stock (looked like mostly the big MM make-up removers), and maybe 100 or so Reach in a large bin by the front register. I’ll be updating on this situation as I learn more, because two stores willing to work with us is even better, especially for those driving up from Joliet, Homewood and Matteson (saves about 20 minutes driving).
After my annoying trips today where the BB Q wouldn’t scan and my $2 Almay Q said “item not found”, I might make the drive to Lisle.
The store registers had to be manually reset this morning for those stupid Beauty Book coupons to work. And since so many mgrs don’t want to be bothered with the RR deals to begin with, being able to say it doesn’t work because… yadayadayada… just gives them a hard on. The women, I mean; guy mgrs have insufficient blood.
Hmmm…NONE of the stores seemed to know ANYTHING about that-even though I mentioned it…
They didn’t know the male managers couldn’t get hard ons? hmmm, must be classified…
Does Walgreens as reset the registers all together via a computer connection or is it up to each individual store manager to reset the registers. I was able to do only 22 transactions today in my neighborhood Chicago stores and gave up on one because the damn register wouldn’t stop beeping! This one broad got on her soap box about people abusing register rewards as I did my deals. I asked her if she pisses and moans when people pay with their link government cheese cards. Don’t get me started… I’m goin offf!!! At my favorite wags the manager gave me a cop discount too because I had my badge! Next time I’m going to abuse my authority and wear my vest.
I think the fact that the individual stores had to reset their own registers is a glitch of some kind. Maybe a proactive store manager should learn to reset immediately once a problem comes up, like these Wags/mfr coupon fiascos.
I had a great experience in Wheaton today!
Just some observations….OOP on the Almay was a little higher because of the tax. (54 cents). The beauty book coupon rang as a manufacturer’s coupon thus more tax. The beauty book coupon went through, but the manufacturer’s coupon beeped even when the other bar code was covered up, so the cashier entered them all manually.
I put $40 on a gift card, so I didn’t have to deal w/ the money. The cashier actually just took the gift card and swiped it on her side so I didn’t have to deal w/ pushing all the buttons on the keypad.
Oh, I’ve GOT to remember to put some RR on a gift card. Thanks!
how do you put RR on a GC?
WHAT? You can use RRs to buy a Wags GC? This would be too good to be true…….tell me it is. I asked at Jewel and the answer was no. Please let me know if that is not the case either. 🙂
Kara, you must be the person that was in before me. When I got there, I was told how much it was (54 cents) and told to but a GC for the total, gave it to her and that was it. Its a GREAT store! I can’t say enough about it, its so great that I’m nervous while the cashier is calm….she got it on down. I told the manager to give her a raise…but he laughed at me 🙂 Then I did regular shopping, so I was there for a bit, but that’s okay…I got my RRs!
Ack! Grammar & spelling error .due to er…. excitement 🙂

thanks for posting about the Lisle store! I do live in Joliet, and was thinking of trying your store in Wheaton in the future for special orders, but Lisle would definitely be closer! Keep us apprised!
Technically, you are not SUPPOSED to purchase gift cards with RR’s — BUT — it has been known to happen hehehehe — Postage stamps too ! I just ask to have $10 / $20 put on a card at the beginning of my order – usually when I have at least 4/5 items. Sometimes I hand over the rr’s first (that will cover the gift card) before any coupons, sometimes after my coupons. Make sure you have the correct number of items for the amount of mf coupons you have. Works for me! Don’t ASK – just DO!
I called Wheaton Wags last night & mgr (Rich?) said it would be OK to take my 1 day expired RR’s as long as I came in by today. Did that. Ben was on duty (Rich is his boss) and tells me NO on the RR’s. Whhhhaaaaatttttt? So I called ahead, got permission and drove there for nothing? Asked him to call Rich, he grudgingly and supposedly did in the back room. Ben said he called Rich’s cell, and came back with a jerky smug grin on his face saying that he could not get a hold of him and he would not do that. Ben at Wheaton Walgreens, thanks for jerking my chain! Don’t worry though, Lisle Wags got my business, today AND IN THE FUTURE!
Your comment will be brought to Steve’s attention tomorrow (I’ve printed out your post) when I stop by to grab some “cash.” I have used a couple of days expired RRs before and Steve has said that, as Rich told you, if it’s only a day expired they will accept it. There should NEVER have been a disconnect in the way the store’s management team handles things. Otherwise we may as well be shopping in Dominicks. I am glad that you were able to get your items at the Lisle Wags since it appears that it will be one of ours now, but still, no reason for your wasted trip. I’m actually pissed.
Thank you. Your response meant a lot to me.
Had an awesome experience at the Wheaton Wags today! I am SO glad they “get it”! The young girl that rang up my multiple transactions was so sweet – and she loves working at this store! I loved shopping at this store! If I’d had more time, I would have done some rolling and things, but maybe the next deal that comes around.
Thanks!
I LOVE WHEATON WAGS!!-and yes, I’m shouting!!! They are fabulous!! Loved how organized they are and also had a super sweet cashier. Looked around for Steve to tell him in person how well run his store is but he must not have been around. Thanks Goddess for your help-I am feeling wealthy with all the RR in my purse:)
I have talked to Ben at the Wheaton Wags and I thought he was cool. He was patient and helpful on a phone call.
I also have had trouble with the RR being expired and some mgrs will say yes- the strong willed ones always say yes. The scared ones or very young always say no. (this is not the Wheaton store) I had two $7 RR from the lysol hand soap dispensors and I just would not give up on finding a store that would take it. I did find one in Elgin! I think it is on Lake street. So, my advice is to never ever throw away an old RR. You will eventually find a store kind enough to accept it. I was told by a strong type mgr that as long as it does not beep it will be OK and that the mfgr will cover it.
I do have a question about Wheaton Wags Almay RR deal… How long does it take to go through the Almay transactions? I am gettin a little nervous since this is my first time and I am dreaming about spending my new RR before I have them … like on a facial!
Trini, some of us who placed big orders with The Coupon God known as Steve were asked to come in at specific times to do our transactions!! Read here that one couponer did 100 transactions in about 3 hours!!
I found extra coupons so did a few rounds a a store, took about 15 mins, buy, out to the car, rinse and repeat!
And I just threw out 5 $2 expired RRs. dam, dam, dam.
The 3 hours for 100 transactions included one hour commutes each way (from south Joliet, I believe) and only one hour for the 100, so $136 per hour, including getting paid for driving!
