75% off tickets to Madame Butterfly (set in Mombasa & performed in English)

American Chamber Opera presents their original staging of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, performed in English and set in Mombasa, Kenya.  This event is in collaboration with Aid for Africa and Opera Moda, with some of the proceeds benefiting the education of women and children in Kenya. This version of the opera follows Pinkerton, an American naval officer leasing a house in Kenya with Butterfly, the African woman he loves.  Faced with the condemnation of his family, colleagues and the clergy — who disapprove of his union with a native — Pinkerton grows weak and abandons his new bride to return to a conventional life. Butterfly is left in poverty, facing life as a single mother. In the end, Pinkerton receives one last chance at redemption to close out this tragic tale of doomed love.  Tickets are for next weekend’s three performances and start at $7.50.
