Named for a trinket hawked in the back pages of True Detective magazine, the Goo Goo Dolls proved to be much more than a ‘novelty’ act. Known for such huge ’90s hits as “Iris,” “Name,” “Black Balloon” and “Slide,” singer/guitarist Johnny Rzeznik and bassist Robby Takac are still going strong after 20 years as a band. Their latest EP, You Should Be Happy, is scheduled to be released later this year. The uber-successful group’s racked up the most hits in the history of the adult-contemporary genre with 14 Top 10 radio smashes. In fact, Billboard named “Iris” the top song of the decade ’92-’12. Now the ‘Dolls hit the stage for a live concert with American Idol winner Phillip Phillips at Chicago’s Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island and you can get tickets for less on Goldstar.
