12/4 CVS – Norelco razor – $10 MM

UPDATE:  Here’s a comment from Kitty about today’s CVS trip.

SO..I bought 3 Norelco Shavers @$39.99…they actually take my 3-$30 coupons, no problem….so do you think I get 3-$10 gift cards?   NOPE  Only 2 , cuz the 2 limit is actually 2 limit.  SO…I return one of the 3 shavers and try this:  Buy 2 more Norelco shavers @ $39.99 and 2 Garnier moisturizers @ $5 that are part of the buy $30 get $10 card.  OK..so now I should get $30 in gift cards, right?  WRONG.  It is explained to me as follows:  In the ad where the shaver is pictured, it says you get a $10 gift card WYB the shaver.  THAT means exactly what it says, but apparently the $79.98 I spent DOESN’T go towards the $90 even if I spend another $10 on participating products. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?  So I returned the $10 worth of Garnier on the spot.

This clearly shows that this Norelco gift card promotion is separate from the Buy $30 promotion running on the other items.  On one hand, it means you can score $70 in gift cards this week…but on the other hand, you have to actually pay for most of it.  Unless, of course, you drive in to Naperville…

The week of December 4, CVS will have the Norelco razors on sale for $39.99.  They’re part of the Buy $30 get $10 gift card promotion, so if you never got a rain check, it’s a good deal.  Ad says limit 2, but if they don’t hold to that, you can run it this way:  Buy three razors for $119.72, use three $30 coupons and get back $40 in gift cards.  You’ll end up with a $10 MM (ecbs trigger at 98% of the threshold; I am guessing it’s the same with the gift cards?).  Otherwise, throw in a small anything for thirty cents.

  1. Any chance that Emily will have any of these in stock? I am totally kicking myself b/c I did not get in on the BF deal and yesterday my mom told me that my brother needed a razor.

    • Emily has standing orders at the warehouse for more razors – my guess is that she’ll get some every week (but I think they cleaned out the warehouse last week!). The coupons don’t expire for a month, so we’re good.

  2. I have found that the GCs DO IN FACT trigger as low as 29.60 for me the other day, and then today at 29.70, so I am assuming you are correct regarding the 98% rule.

    • Oh, yeah, we’re gonna be breaking down the Target doors to buy a razor with a coupon showing a different razor on the face AND a high-value coupon that exceeds the price by a penny.

      Let’s all raise our hands…

      • Ouch! Curiousity just killed the cat. I’ve only got a month or two under my couponing belt, so was just wondering. I check your site everyday (which is fabulously whitty, I might add), and was curious how to “pick your battles”, so to speak 🙂

        • Seriously, I pretty much hate Target because of their stupid registers that never seem to scan right and have those $5 gift cards included as a part of what you’re paying.

Of course, I LOVE, just LOVE Target when they have those wonderful $5 Target coupons for clothing that line up so nicely with their 75% off clearance jeans…

Oh, and welcome to the wonderful world of never paying full-price for anything (unless it is something we DAMMED WELL WANT TO!)

  4. Fyi, the “limit 2” is a limit on the gift card coupons that print out. I just bought 3 razors, with 3 coupons, but only 2 vouchers printed for the “buy $30, get $10”

    • There must be some mistake here. The FREE gift card promotion says limit FIVE gift cards per week per card. The Norelco razor is regularly priced at $62.99 and on sale this week for $39.99. My reading of this is that the $39.99 price is limited to two razors – after that they would jump to $62.99. If you bought 3 razors using the rain check price of $26.99, then you only hit a $80.97 price, not enough to trigger the 3rd $10 gift card coupon. It does track your purchases, so anything you buy this week (as part of the promo) will bump you up. I’ll check it out, though.

      • Oh, and I forgot to mention, all 3 rung up at the $39.99 price. So I had roughly $40 to pay ($9.99×3 for razors, and about $10 for tax)….and also found out that the Amex gift cards take around 4 hours to activate….so I couldnt use the two that I got for my second transaction.

(I was also really hoping that they would all qualify for the buy $30, get $10 at the limit of 5 cards. Guess not, I may or may not return the one razor and have my mom buy it with her card. Although $10+tax is still really good for these)

  5. I didnt do the rain check price. It was $39.99 x 3 = 119.97, minus $30cpn x 3 = $29.97

It didnt show the usual “tracking”. The bottom of the receipt printed out a voucher for $20 for the gift cards. It looked like the way ECB print, and then where the offers are listed at the bottom, it said “buy 1 norelco, get $10 card, limit 2, limit reached”

    • Okay, this is really odd, then. Since the Naperville CVS doesn’t have any in stock they can’t test this out. I’ll head over there within the hour with a couple from my stockpile and run this deal.

I can’t say I’ve ever seen a deal where the limit doesn’t mean the lower price, in this case $39.99. Very, very odd, but very good to know for our purchases this week, if this isn’t a glitch.

  6. If you read in the ad, it says “Free Gift Card when you buy this item” and it has a Limit of 2, whereas the other gift card items just say “Free Gift Card.” I think this is why it’s only allowing the purchase of 2. I’m gonna try to buy 2 of them along with 4 Bags of Popcorn Indiana or 4 boxes of GM cereal and see if it gives me 3 for spending $90!

    • Okay, I checked this out at CVS with Emily, who said that CVS basically considers this a form of ecbs, so that’s what the limit means. (I was going to say that your way won’t work, but now that I think about it, it’s weird enough that it might. Let us all know, okay? It’s a way to game the system without being in a store that overrides.) It also means that any store manager can authorize his/her staff to override this limitation, which the Naperville store is doing. So if you are buying at another CVS, you will have to work with those two limits per card. At the Naperville store you will be able to go over that amount. Boy, you learn something new every day!

      • I may stop in my store tonight/tomorrow and ask the manager if he would be willing to do that. They have been really great in the past with coupons so far, so its worth a shot.

      • Sent the hubby to our local CVS tonight and it was a No Go. I didn’t realize that the Norelco on sale is from the 7000 series and the $30 off coupon is only for the Senso series (much more expensive product). 🙁

          • Well, we went to a different CVS today and bought 2 Norelco razors for $39.99 each, 2 boxes of GM cereal and 2 bags of Popcorn Indiana, which should have triggered 3 $10 gift cards, but it only triggered for 2. The cashier, who is a supervisor, ended up printing us out a $10 ECB because she couldn’t override a gift card, which was fine with me. Upon getting home, I looked at the bottom of my receipt though, and it does track the gift card and Norelco gift card deals separate. It shows that I have $10 towards the spend $30, get $10 and that my Norelco offer limit has been reached. Hope this helps! 🙂

Also, I was going to buy 3 of the $25 American Express Gift Cards to get the $10 ECB, but did you realize that they charge you $5.95 per card to activate it!?! I thought that was a little ridiculous!

  7. So, if an item is returned that a coupon was used on…the returned amount is the amount you actually paid or the pre-coupon amount (accounting for the fact that the store will get reimbursed anyway for that coupon) ?

    • Well, if they try to say you used a coupon on the item, then demand the coupon be returned to you because otherwise they are being paid double. You’re right that they will get the value, which is why that deal at Staples and Office Depot (?) on the Duracell batteries pissed me off. They’re taking the coupon and not giving you back credit for the purchase. So ‘eff ’em, they don’t get the coupon. I can be mean like that…

  8. Hi Chris!

Been lurking here for some time 🙂

On this deal, can you please add the link somewhere here for the picture you are talking about relating this coupon to the 7300 series deal? I cannot find the picture in any cvs or norelco posts…and on the Phillips/Norelco website it does NOT appear that the 7300 series is in the senso line? Sorry for my first post to be a pain in the tushy! 🙂

    Help!

Brad the stay at home Dad 🙂

  9. Thank you

    Great find!!

I just tried at CVS in Buffalo Grove they had 4 left

I also noticed Walgreen’s running same razor on sale for 34.99 good thru 12/10
