Goldstar: Graceland Nov. daytime tours

Daytime walking tour of Graceland Cemetery through Goldstar, which means half-price tickets!  I’m tossing in that part about daytime, because this would make for a fascinating history lesson on Chicago and the people who contributed so much to it’s growth.

Goldstar funny freebie

Goldstar is offering free tickets to Down & Derby with dates spread over a couple of weekends.  Now in its fifth season, the New Colony rolls out the debut of Aaron Weissman’s play Down & Derby. It’s the story of the Misfit Mavericks, a scrappy group of gals from Larkin City, Ohio, who’ve trained to become a team of rink warriors. And with names like JonBenet Slamsey, Blood Bath & Beyond, Harlot O’Scara and more, they’re definitely ready for action. But as their first hometown bout looms, these roller-derby dolls fight to keep themselves on track.

free theater – thanks, Goldstar!

Get free tickets (or up to $8.50) for the weekend performances of Outward Bound on October 26, 27 and 28 at the Jedlicka Performing Arts Center.  Theater is on the Morton College campus, on Central Avenue, just off I-55.

Twice adapted to film, Outward Bound is a tale of seven passengers who meet in the lounge of an ocean liner at sea and realize they have no idea why they’re there, or where they’re headed. Each of them eventually discovers that they’re dead, and they’re heading toward Judgment Day. Written in 1923, no producers wanted to stage the production, fearing its unusual combination of fantasy and drama. Writer Sutton Vane rose to the occasion and produced it himself — and it became the hit of the 1923 London season. Later, the play garnered success in New York, and it’s lived on in film and countless stage productions.

Goldstar freebie – The Woman in White

Lifeline Theatre presents The Woman in White, a suspenseful drama based on Wilkie Collins’ classic Victorian novel. It’s the story of Laura Fairlie, a beautiful young heiress trapped in a loveless marriage and menaced by a sinister conspiracy. Her art tutor Walter Hartright and her sister Marian Halcombe must unravel the mystery that threatens Laura’s life — and uncover the truth behind the mysterious woman in white who shares her face. Elise Kauzlaric directs Lifeline company member Robert Kauzlaric’s world premiere stage adaptation of this eerie tale.

This one is a freebie. The House Theatre of Chicago presents The Nutcracker, a re-imagining of the classic E.T.A. Hoffmann story. These are November dates with one of the freebies already sold out.

Goldstar has pages of live theater, both free and deeply-discounted, so check them all out.  Xanadu (the all-roller skate musical) is at the Drury Lane.
